2 minutes of your time re: new Tulse Hill Sainsburys

Monday (Feb 18)  is the last day for representations to Lambeth’s licensing department about the new Sainsbury’s store on Tulse Hill/Water Lane.

There are concerns about the failure of Sainsbury’s to submit a transport assessment in light of the extra traffic the store will generate, combined with extended opening hours.

The licensing department can take action on these issues only if enough people write in, making specific objections about public nuisance and safety. The store itself will go ahead because no change of use is involved.

Your view will not be counted if you don’t include your FULL name and address.

Points to consider:

A) A proper traffic and transport assessment is conducted with appropriate measures, such as a crossing, put in place.

B) More limited licensing and delivery hours

Dear Lambeth Licensing Officer

I would like to object to the licensing application for the planned Sainsbury’s at 2 Tulse Hill for the following reasons.

1)    The application is for licensing hours of 6AM to 12 Midnight. This will cause a public nuisance of undue traffic and noise to the surrounding streets at unsociable hours. 24 parking places are also inadequate for a Supermarket of that size and people will inevitably park on nearby streets when parking restrictions have ended on evenings and weekends – adding to the disruption.

2)    There will be a significant increase in traffic if alcohol is sold as it will be the most convenient large supermarket for up to 30,000 people, including  the whole of Tulse Hill Ward and a sizeable part of Herne Hill, Loughborough Junction, and people living to the East of Brixton. This will pose a considerable risk to public safety and children due to the increased risk of accidents in an already congested area.  Of particular concern are the lack of pedestrian crossings on two sides of the Brixton Water Lane/Tulse Hill junction, and the increase in traffic on the rat runs that avoid the main roads. This will be of particular risk to child safety at weekends and for children walking to and from Jubilee, Corpus Christie and Sudbourne schools.

We therefore request that the license is withheld until these points are addressed. In particular:

A)    A proper traffic and transport assessment is conducted with appropriate measures put in place.

B)    The licensing hours for Monday to Saturday opening times, deliveries and refuse collection are reduced to after School opening (9AM) to no later than 10PM in the evening.

Yours Sincerely
